February 2008 Motor Vehicle Accident
On February 1, 2008, at 0745 hours, the Ledyard Police Department investigated a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Shewville Road at Pequot Trail. This accident involved 2 vehicles, with the operator and occupants of 1 vehicle fleeing on foot after the crash. The vehicle occupants have been identified and interviewed, and charges are pending against the operator. One operator was transported by American Ambulance to the WW. Construction Equipment Theft
On February 1, 2008, at approximately 0830 hours the Ledyard Police Department initiated an investigation into a theft of construction equipment from a locked trailer at a home under construction at Number 9 Fanning Road. Entry was forced into the trailer and numerous items stolen. The value of stolen property is estimated at approximately $1,300. In the early morning hours of February 2, 2008, the Ledyard Police Department investigated 8 motor vehicle accidents due to heavy road icing. While investigating one of the crashes, a parked and occupied Ledyard Police vehicle was struck by a motorist traveling on Route 117 near Bolduc Drive. The accident resulted in heavy damage to both vehicles and the transport of both the Officer and vehicle operator to the W.W. Backus Hospital by the Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad for minor injuries.
Motor Vehicle Accident
On February 5, 2008, at 1510 hours, the Ledyard Police Department responded to Route 12 at North Glenwood Road in Gales Ferry for the report of a motor vehicle accident involving 3 vehicles. On arrival 1 occupant was found to have been ejected from their vehicle. Two people were transported to the W.W. Backus hospital in Norwich for treatment of their injuries. Route 12 remained closed due to the investigation, which was conducted by the patrol division of the Ledyard Police Department with assistance from the Ledyard Police Accident Reconstruction Team and the Ledyard Police Detective division. Sexual Assault Arrest
On January 30, 2008, the Ledyard Police Department received a complaint of a possible sexual assault. After investigation, an arrest warrant was applied for and granted by the New London Superior Court.On February 19, 2008, the Ledyard Police Department arrested Joseph M. Murphy (date of birth April 26, 2001) of 357 Pumpkin Hill Road in Ledyard, currently in the custody of the Connecticut Department of Corrections. Murphy was processed at the Superior Court in New London and presented. He was charged with the following: sexual assault in a cohabiting relationship sexual assault 1st degree. This case is now closed.
