School Bus versus Pedestrian Accident
On January 14, 2009, at 0701 hours, the Ledyard Police Department, Gales Ferry Fire Department, and the Ledyard Volunteer Ambulance Squad responded to the intersection of Kings Highway at Meadow Drive in the Gales Ferry section of Ledyard for the report of a school bus striking 2 pedestrians. On the arrival of emergency responders, it was found that a 14-year-old and 12-year-old were struck resulting in minor injuries. Investigation revealed that the bus, which was stopping at the intersection stop sign, slid on ice carrying it into the 2 youths. Both youths were transported to the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London for treatment of their injuries, which appeared to be minor in nature. The accident remains under investigation.
The bus, which was owned by the Standard Transport of Connecticut , was operated by Amanda Krueger (date of birth January 5, 1076) and was loaded with students.
Road rage arrest
On January 14, 2009, at 1633 hours the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a road rage incident which resulted in an individual being assaulted on Route 12 at Dow Chemical in the Gales Ferry section of Ledyard. The victim in this case reported being followed by another motorist who was operating his vehicle in an aggressive manner. While at a traffic control signal the aggressive driver exited his vehicle, approached the victims vehicle, and assaulted the victim. The accused then fled. At 1748 hours, while police were attempting to locate the accused, another report was received of a road rage incident having occurred on Route 117 in Ledyard Center involving the same vehicle. In this incident the accused, who had been again operating his vehicle aggressively, exited his vehicle and caused a disturbance, while attempting to identify himself as a police officer. The victim followed the accused to a residence and notified police of his location. Officers arrived at the residence and attempted to take the individual into custody. The accused was combative and a Taser device was deployed allowing Police to take him into custody without injury.
