The Ledyard Police Department is currently attempting to locate the following missing person. Ryan Bidstrup 09/21/1989 of 5 Green Point Street in Ledyard. He was last seen on March 31, 2011 in the Highlands section of Ledyard. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Ledyard Police Department at 860-464-6400.
Sexual Assault Arrest
On February 28, 2014 at approximately 0730hrs the Ledyard Police Department Patrol & Detective Divisions, along with the Ledyard Resident Trooper, served an arrest warrant that was the result of a sexual assault investigation. James Matthewson DOB 10-16-1984 of 41G Flintlock Rd Ledyard, CT was arrested and charged with Sexual Assault 1st Degree (4 counts) and Risk of Injury to a Minor (5 counts). Matthewson was held on a $500,000 bond and will be presented for arraignment at GA 10 in New London.
One Vehicle Crash
On March 3, 2014 at approximately 0435hrs the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a one vehicle versus utility pole crash on Washington Drive at Long Cove Rd in Gales Ferry. Upon the arrival of emergency responders, it was found that the vehicle operator had fled the scene on foot. A Connecticut State Police K9 conducted a search for the vehicle operator, ultimately finding him laying in a wooded area. He was taken into custody without incident. The operator, Eric Grubbs DOB 04/16/1991 of 39 Ash Dr Apt. 26, was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Drugs/Alcohol, Evading Responsibility, Failure to drive right, Operating a vehicle without a license.
The Gales Ferry Fire Department also responded to the scene. Damage to the telephone pole was evaluated by CL&P.
