The goal of the Town of Ledyard Water Pollution Control Authority is to efficiently collect, transport, and treat the incoming wastewater. Producing pristine effluent while preserving the environment, protecting natural resources, and providing clean quality water for the downstream users.

The Ledyard Highlands Wastewater Treatment Facility was upgraded in 1997. This upgrade included Sequencing Batch Reactors with fine air diffusers, flow equalization, automatic backwash sand filtration, and ultraviolet light disinfection. This tertiary system provides a state of the art wastewater treatment facility for the community of Ledyard. This includes a septage receiving area and a rotary drum thickening component of the plant processes. These two most recent additions to the facility continue to save a significant amount of money in solids handling costs.

The sanitary collection system consists of approximately six miles of gravity pipe, two miles of force mains, and two pumping stations. The plant capacity is 0.26 MGD. The plant can handle peak flows of 0.80MGD. Currently the average flow into the facility is 0.17MGD.

The Ledyard Highlands WWTF is rated as a class IV facility. This is the highest designation for plants in the State of Connecticut. It takes a dedicated and professional staff to operate and maintain such a facility. We are proud to continue to provide the residents of Ledyard with the quality of service that they deserve while protecting the environment and natural resources of Southeastern Connecticut.
