Car Versus Building Crash
On Friday September 6, 2013 at approximately 1756 hours the Ledyard Police Department received the report that a motor vehicle had crashed into the front of the Valentinos Restaurant at 725 Colonel Ledyard Highway in Ledyard Center. Officers from the Ledyard Police Department, the Ledyard Fire Department, and Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad responded.
Investigation by the Ledyard Police Department found that a 2007 Mazda operated by Geraldine McGoonan DOB 10/17/1942 of 16 Blonders Boulevard in Ledyard had struck the brick front of the restaurant, causing damage. The cause of the accident is believed to have resulted from a medical condition, for which McGoonan was transported to the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for treatment. No injuries were incurred by any restaurant patrons as a result of the crash.
The damage to the establishment was examined by the Ledyard Building Inspector and Ledyard Fire Marshal, who determined it could remain open.
Car Versus Pedestrian Evading Accident
On Friday September 6, 2013 at approximately 2310 hours the Ledyard Police Department received the report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in front of the Ledyard Mobil on Route 117 (Colonel Ledyard Highway). As a result of being struck, Zachary A. Sanjuan DOB 12/20/1996 of Gales Ferry was treated at the scene by the Ledyard Fire Department and Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad before being transported to the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
According to multiple witnesses, the vehicle which struck Sanjuan stopped to check on his condition, but left the scene prior to the arrival of emergency services. Witnesses describe the vehicle as a light blue or silver 2008-2013 Audi A4 or A6 with tinted windows. They describe the driver as a light skinned black or hispanic male, 20-30 years old, short hair, goatee, baseball cap on backwards and glasses.

Arrest Made For Possession Of Illegal Reptile
On September 11, 2013 the Ledyard Police Department charged Anthony String DOB 01/31/1977 of 128 Spicer Hill Road Ledyard with the Possession of an Illegal Reptile. String was issued a summons and is scheduled to appear at GA 10 in New London on September 25, 2013. This charge is related to the month(s) long search for a reptile undertaken by the Ledyard Animal Control and Ledyard Police Department due to multiple sightings of a Nile Monitor Lizard, which was ultimately located on August 25, 2013.
On September 23, 2013 at approximately 6:30 p.m. the Ledyard Police Department was contacted by a resident of Parkwood Drive in Gales Ferry indicating they had returned home to find that a burglary had occurred. Officers from the Ledyard Police Department responded and initiated an investigation. A Ledyard Police K9 conducted a track to locate a possible offender and evidence. Investigation into this incident has determined that the home was entered between approximately 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on the 23rd through a rear window, and that both jewelry and a computer were taken. On September 27, 2013 at approximately 5:45 p.m. the Ledyard Police Department responded to a residential security alarm at a home on Friar Tuck Drive in Gales Ferry. On the arrival of responding officers, it was discovered that someone had gained entry to the home by removing a window air conditioner. Investigation revealed that the resident had left the home for a short period, during which time this crime occurred. The Ledyard Police Department was assisted in this investigation by a K9 unit from the Groton Police Department.
